Two years. Two Corporate Vision awards. One mission that has stayed the same from the start: helping people around the world learn Romanian with confidence. From Language Specialist to Full Learning Platform
The 2025 award recognised the teaching at the heart of I Learn Romanian: the lessons, the preparation, the personalised materials, and the hundreds of student questions that sometimes make me look at my own language in a completely new way.
The 2026 award feels like the next chapter. Being named Best Online Romanian Language Platform reflects what I Learn Romanian has grown into. It is no longer only a place to book a Romanian lesson, but a place where learners come back to the language again and again. In one platform they can:

That evolution did not happen because I decided to build a platform. It happened because my students needed one.
Why the Hard Part Is Everything Between the Lessons
Anyone who has seriously tried to learn Romanian knows that finding a lesson is rarely the hardest part. The real challenge is what happens between the lessons. You take one class a week, and for an hour you are surrounded by the language. Then the lesson ends, and if you live outside Romania you might barely hear Romanian again until the following week. That is a very difficult way to build fluency.
Over the years I kept seeing the same need: students wanted more Romanian. More listening, more vocabulary in context, more realistic conversations, more material for different levels, and especially more resources for learners who had moved beyond the very first stages. That need shaped I Learn Romanian, until individual resources gradually became part of something much larger.
Knowing Romanian Is Not the Same as Using It
Grammar matters and vocabulary matters, but knowing a rule is not the same as being able to use the language. You can memorise hundreds of Romanian words and still freeze when someone asks you a simple question. You can understand a grammar exercise perfectly, then hear a native speaker and wonder whether you have ever studied Romanian at all.
That is why my approach places so much emphasis on exposure, conversation and context. Students need to hear how Romanian sounds when it is not divided neatly into textbook sentences, meet the same words more than once, make mistakes, and ask the question that really matters: would a Romanian person actually say this? Learning That Continues After the Lesson Ends

Language-learning content does not have to be boring. Of course students need to introduce themselves, order food and ask for directions, but Romanian learners are not walking textbooks. They are curious adults with interests, opinions and stories, and they want to talk about history, science, culture, nature, travel and the world around them.
That philosophy shaped the I Learn Romanian Podcast. Instead of only teaching Romanian as a subject, it lets learners use Romanian to discover something else. That is when the language begins to feel real: when you listen because you want to know what happens next, and realise halfway through a conversation that you have stopped translating in your head.
Romanian for Beginners, Without the Overwhelm
I know how intimidating Romanian can look at the start. There are unfamiliar sounds, grammatical genders, cases and verb conjugations, and plenty of moments when a beginner reasonably wonders why Romanian needs so many versions of the same word. The good news is that you do not need to understand the entire language before you start using it.
For beginners I build Romanian gradually through useful vocabulary, everyday expressions, pronunciation, basic grammar, listening and conversation. The goal is not perfection, it is progress. Understanding one more sentence than last week, answering a question without translating it first, recognising an expression in a conversation: those small victories eventually become fluency. A good starting point is the Romanian alphabet and pronunciation.
And What Happens After the Beginner Stage?
There are many resources to teach someone their first Romanian words, but far fewer for what comes next. Intermediate learners often find themselves stuck: they understand Romanian, but not always; they speak it, but sometimes the words vanish exactly when they need them; they know the grammar, yet native speakers still sound impossibly fast.
This is precisely the stage where learners need more exposure to real Romanian, not less. Advanced students face a related problem: finding material challenging enough to keep improving. That is why I Learn Romanian creates content for beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. There should always be something else to learn.
Create Your Own Romanian Immersion, Wherever You Are
People say the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in it, which is excellent advice if you happen to be surrounded by Romanian speakers. Many of my students are not, so I encourage them to build their own immersion into an ordinary day:
- Listen to Romanian while driving or making dinner.
- Watch a video, then read along with a transcript.
- Keep Romanian music playing in the background.
- Replay the part of an audio you could not understand, then replay it again.
Immersion does not mean moving to Romania. Often it simply means making a little room for Romanian in your everyday life, and enjoying the moment when you return to a difficult recording weeks later and wonder why it ever seemed hard.
Built Through Real Lessons With Real Students
I Learn Romanian has never been created in isolation from the people actually learning the language. My students shape it. A learner asks a question I have heard ten times and I realise something needs a better explanation. Someone needs more listening practice, another wants something harder, a beginner needs an exercise for a specific situation. Those moments become ideas, and ideas become lessons, videos, exercises, podcast episodes, transcripts and workbooks that help the next student. In many ways the platform has grown through one continuous conversation between teacher and learner, and that is something I never want to lose.
What This 2026 Award Means to Me
Being named Best Online Romanian Language Platform 2026 is something I am deeply proud of, but I do not see it as a finish line. If anything, it makes me more excited about what comes next: more resources for complete beginners, more listening practice, more podcast episodes and workbooks, more support for intermediate students who feel stuck, and more challenging content for advanced learners. Above all, more moments when a student suddenly says, “Wait, I understood that.” Those moments will always mean more to me than any award.
